Although these are tips on what to do when you’re lacking motivation, these tips can also be used when you are trying to come out of a depressed state of mind.
If you’re human then I know you’ve had days where you are just not motivated to do anything. A few weeks ago I posted a letter to myself. I mentioned in that post that, for a while, I was depressed. I had lost all motivation to do anything. I wasn’t writing blogs because I didn’t feel like writing anything. I told myself that I had nothing to talk about even though I know I did. I just didn’t feel like doing anything. I was so down that I wasn’t even caring how I looked when I left the house. I lost all motivation and I just didn’t care. I didn’t care about anything at all. Then I decided that it was time for me to stop being in whatever slump I was in. I got tired of being down and depressed all the time. I knew that if I stayed where I was, things were just going to get worse for me. I didn’t want things to get worse. I really wanted better for myself. So I decided to do a few things to pick myself up. Today, I’m going to share some of those tips with you guys!
#1. Have A Self-Care Day(s)
This may seem like something small but it’s #1 on this list for a reason. You have to love the HELL out of yourself. I’ve said this before on Twitter I believe. All the stress, depression, feelings of doubt, all that hell. Love the HELL out of yourself. Fix yourself a nice meal. Watch a movie or a show that you love. Get out of the house for a minute. Buy yourself something small. Go get a manicure or a pedicure or both! Do something that you used to do that made you happy.
Writing helps a lot. You don’t have to be a blogger. You don’t even have to be good with words. You don’t have to post anything online. Just write something to yourself. Write something to encourage yourself. Tell yourself about all the great things you’ve done. Remind yourself of situations that you’ve been through that you have overcome. All those times that you came out on top during times when you thought you were going to fail. Tell yourself not to give up. Encourage yourself!
#3. Take Time Out For Yourself
For this one, you can add in some tips from #1 and #2. Also, something that I added, take a break…from everything. Put down your phone and your laptop. Take a break from social media for a while. You don’t have to tell anyone or make a huge announcement that you’re taking a break from them or social media. Just take some time to yourself to figure out life. Have a “come to Jesus” meeting with yourself.
#4. Talk to Someone
After doing #1-#3, you might be ready to come out of your shell. Now it would be best for you to talk to someone, maybe a close friend. Tell them how you’re feeling. Let them know what’s been going on with you. Let them know that you’re still alive. You’re picking yourself up out of your slump. By the time you get to this step you’ll actually WANT to talk to somebody.
After completing these four things, you should be well on your way to getting out of your slump, if not out of it. Use these tips to build up your determination to get things done.
Sometimes you just have to be determined because you won’t always feel motivated.
